Shawn Allen, DC, DABCO
A board certified Chiropractic Orthopedist; achieved through a three (3) year in-house resident trained post-doctoral program in chiropractic orthopedics through the National University of Health Sciences with additional extensive training in functional neurology. Dr. Shawn is currently enrolled and studying the Post-doctoral functional neurology program through the Carrick Institute. In the recent past he has been an adjunct faculty member with the Lincoln School of Post-Professional Education and an instructor in advanced orthopedics and functional biomechanics at National University in Lombard, Illinois. His focus now is his teaching towards web-based live teleseminars/webinars so that he can reach a broader international audience.
David Behm, PhD
Dr. Behm has worked at Memorial University of Newfoundland since 1995 teaching more than 18 different courses. His research interests have been diverse with over 300 peer-reviewed articles, exploring neuromuscular responses to stretching, resistance training, balance, fatigue, foam rolling, and other topics. David has authored a number of chapters and a book entitled “The Science and Physiology of Flexibility and Stretching: Implications and Applications in Sport Performance and Health” (Routledge Publishers 2018). He has received a number of university, national and international awards such as the National Strength and Conditioning Association Outstanding Sport Scientist award (2014), Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology Honour Award (2015) and the International Strength and Conditioning Society Honour Award (2020). He has emphasized public engagement with many appearances on radio and television, a highly viewed TEDx talk on stretching, strength consultant for the Canadian Olympic curling gold medal winning team (2006) and numerous articles in popular fitness magazines and newspapers
Melissa Boswell, Bioengineering Ph.D. candidate
Melissa is a fifth-year Bioengineering Ph.D. candidate at Stanford University. Her work bridges the fields of biomechanics, psychology, and computer science to improve accessibility and adherence to conservative interventions for knee osteoarthritis. She is passionate about improving how we move and how we think about movement in ways that benefit our health and wellbeing. In addition to the work presented at this conference, Melissa is working on a project to collect large-scale human movement and psychological data with a mobile device and developing a mobile intervention to improve mindsets about osteoarthritis and exercise. She also develops machine learning algorithms to transfer gait modifications for osteoarthritis from the lab to a clinical or at-home setting. Outside of her Ph.D. work, she works for Kaia Health, a leading digital therapeutics company, and communicates science through her podcast, Biomechanics On Our Minds.
Conor Collins, Canadian Massage Therapist
Conor’s Sports Injury Therapy background has earned him a growing reputation in the professional sports industry. Conor has consulted for athletes in the NHL, NCAA and IHHF and he was a therapist at the 2015 Pan AM games in Toronto.
When he’s not at the clinic, Conor’s teaching at Mohawk College in the Massage Therapy program or teaching his course “Understanding the Complexity of Concussion” internationally. Conor has written for a variety of magazine and news outlets, as well as participated as an expert at a number of internationally-recognized conferences.
Megan Humphrey, Certified Vinyasa Yoga Teacher
Megan Humphrey is a 200-hour Certified Vinyasa Yoga Teacher based in Corner Brook, NL where she resides with her husband and three dogs. She holds additional certifications in both Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra and has been practicing since 2011. Megan believes in making yoga an accessible and fun experience for all, no matter where you are along your yoga journey. She also believes that movement and mindfulness are medicine especially in today's busy world and yoga is a beautiful combination of both. Megan also works as a Speech-Language Pathologist and in her downtime enjoys an active lifestyle training for triathlons, ultramarathons and spending time hiking and skiing.
Tom Michaud, Keynote
Since graduating from Western States Chiropractic College in the early 80s, Dr. Tom Michaud has published numerous book chapters and dozens of articles on subjects ranging from biomechanics of the first ray and shoulder, to the pathomechanics of vertebral artery dissection.
Ivo Waerlop, DC, DABCN, CCRP
Dr Ivo was born in Biloxi, Mississippi on Kessler Air Force Base and grew up in upstate New York. He is a 1986 summa cum laude graduate of the New York Chiropractic College. He received his post-graduate neurology diplomate from Logan Chiropractic College and became board certified in 1990. Dr Ivo works with a broad base of patients including Olympic level, professional and paraprofessional running, skiing and cycling athletes. He is an adjunct faculty member with the National School of Post-Graduate Education and is one of the 2 founding members of "The Gait Guys", a consulting group which studies and teaches about lower extremity biomechanics, rehabilitation and movement and gait related disorders.
